More Families Considering Exotic Travel Destinations
Looks like I'm not the only parent looking, hoping, and craving an exotic travel destination for my next vacation. When I asked TripConnect members what two cities I should visit in Europe this summer, the top answers were Budapest, Prague, and Vienna - not Paris and London. And the top TripConnect wish list destinations Family Travelers include Hawaii, Greece, New Zealand, Alaska, Costa Rica, and Ireland.
Hmmm.... A quick survey of some recent newspaper posts (see below) and it seems many many other parents are looking to go somewhere 'different' with the family.
All I can say is. Awesome! Here is some good reading:
- Get kids to help choose next vacation destination - some good tips. "if you end up going at a busy time, there are some basic ways to avoid the worst of the crowds. A key one: when visiting a national park or museum, take the route less traveled. Go left when you enter -- most people will go right. And go deep -- most visitors stop at the first thing they see."
- More families taking kids to see the undeveloped world - "Some underdeveloped countries that have become popular as family travel destinations include Costa Rica, Thailand, China, Vietnam, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania and Mali."
- 10 ways to keep the family in good spirits - My favorite line: "Don't impose a restful beach retreat on your children when they want to bungee jump. And don't let them just bask by the pool when there's a new culture to explore"
- Sorry, Disney: Family vacation is going global - "They're riding camels in Morocco, shopping in the markets of Rome and Paris, encountering penguins in South America, cruising the Nile, or visiting the pyramids of Giza."

Hi there! I'm Rcon Pascua, 22, writer, who also loves to explore exotic destinations, particularly Morocco. Morocco's Marrakesh city is my recommended place to visit by families who are planning to have an exotic holiday or vacation trip!

Seems my definition of 'exotic' differs slightly from tripconnect and other members. For an absolutely unforgettable family vacation which can't be described in any other terms, plan to head for the GALAPAGOS ISLANDS. And, having experienced it first hand just a few months ago, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend using Celebrity Cruises Xpedition (the islands can only be seen/visited by boat). Her crew is just unbelievable. And, after you've walked with the giant tortoises and shared the same beach and water with sea lions, Galapagos (tropical) penguins, blue-footed boobies, etc., the term 'exotic' just won't be the same in your vocabulary again.

While I don't travel with a family in tow (it's just me and my husband), I highly recommend Thailand's beaches as a destination. The beaches are amazing, the accomodations nice but reasonably priced and food is delicious (unless you have a fish/seafood allergy).
I recommend the Impiana Hotel in Patong Beach on Phucket. It was destroyed in the tsunami (three weeks after we stayed there) but completely rebuilt. http://www.phuket.com/cabana/

We took our 1 year old to Panama and it was a perfect combination of exotic and convenience. The French and American presence has left a legacy of drinkable water and many of the amenities you could want for you wee ones, in the local grocery store.
On the exotic side: colonial architecture, aboriginal cultural life, Spanish, deserted white beaches, tropical islands, seafood galore, birds galore ... and Panamanians love to dote over small children.

I think that Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful places around the world.

Many species were introduced to the Galápagos by pirates. Thor Heyerdahl quotes documents that mention that the Viceroy of Peru, knowing that British pirates ate the goats that they themselves had released in the islands, ordered dogs to be freed there to eliminate the goats.

Vietnam is every bit of exotic as any place that you mentioned. Vietnam retains its core and traditional culture despite the rapid improvement of their cities.

I'm not sure it's appropriate for families, but Yas Island is definitely an exotic travel destination, worth-seeing and full of attractions.
