Romantic Weekend in Iceland
When friends of ours announced they were going to Iceland on their honeymoon--in winter, no less-- we smiled and said "How cool!" and then secretly shot each other befuddled looks behind their back. Well, the joke was on us. They had a fabulous time. After hearing their stories of swimming in warm geothermal waters (Iceland is, after all, a volcanic landscape), riding white Icelandic ponies through the snow, seeing the Aurora Borealis, shopping and nightclub hopping in hip Reykjavik (where the average woman tends to look like a runway model), we've been dying to go. The only downside to their trip: no Bjork sightings.
To get people to visit in the off-season, IcelandAir has long offered deep, deep discounts on packages. They start as low as $399 a person for round trip airfare from New York, Boston, Baltimore, Orlando, and Minneapolis, two nights in a hotel, daily buffet breakfast, and airport transfers. Of course you can add on days, activities (adventure, spa, etc.) or just make it a stopover on your way to another European city.
Sure, a dose of sunshine in, say, the Caribbean is a great panacea for the January, February blahs, but it's no antidote for your wallet. Instead, why not embrace the chill in a place where winter is truly a wonderland?
Visit icelandair.com for a complete rundown of all their packages, which typically run through the end of March. And check out all the great stories from TripConnect members who've been to Iceland.

We also have Iceland Express.
